Interview with an angel: Summer Wannan

I had the pleasure of interviewing the beautiful Summer about her makeup journey, her beauty must-haves and a little bit about life too. Enjoy x
How did you get into makeup?
I got into wearing lots of makeup at a very young age (I’m talking smokey eyes in 9th grade). So when I was 16 I did a VET program at a Makeup school in the city, and started my business half way through! I was always a creative kid- painting or making something, so makeup came very naturally to me. I’d be procrastinating my homework doing a smokey eye on one eye, and a gold cut crease on the other.
What has it been like starting your own business, and working for yourself?
I think that starting my business so young I got lucky and had time on my side to grow my name, without the pressure of it having to be such a serious stressful big thing. There are hard times for sure, I remember finishing my last client before the covid lockdowns and bursting into tears scared about my future, but everything has always worked out. Working for myself is honestly so incredible, it barely feels like I’m working most of the time, just chit chatting with girlies helping them feel pretty.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Probably still in the makeup industry but a slightly different path, I’m about to branch into education & workshops so hopefully that takes off, I’d like to be doing international weddings and to be honest- working less and living more!
What’s your everyday go to outfit?
A maxi skirt, crop top & cowboy boots, I live on the beach so when the weathers good there’s a 99% chance there’s a bikini underneath.
5 makeup items you can’t live without?
1. Embryolisse lait-crème concentré (GOAT moisturiser & skin primer)
2. Bobbi brown skin corrector stick (perfect for under eyes for no makeup look or under concealer)
3. The Hourglass face palettes that come out at Christmas time - I regret not buying 5. All of their powders are heavenly
4. Laneige sleep lip mask. Looks like gloss, tastes like candy, feels like a DREAM
5. Modelrock beauty blenders, I swear almost every client tells me they’re the softest they’ve ever felt!

Do you have a current favourite makeup look you love doing, either on yourself or others?
Natural makeup all the way!! I like wearing absolutely minimal makeup and love doing it on clients too. Glowing dewy bronzed skin, some natural individual lashes, a bit of lip gloss and a fluffy brow.
Are you manifesting anything at the moment?
Yes! I’m always speaking things into existence, I’m about to spend 3 months in Europe and plan on sipping cocktails on yacht parties with rich European hotties, really been pushing that one so stay tuned.
Your favourite restaurant in Adelaide?
Madame Hanoi & Part time lover were probably my top 2 this year, I’m a sucker for a banquet. You seriously have to try the broccoli at part time lover.

Advice to your 23 year old self?
Relax, you will find your people. Good things are coming and every experience is a lesson worth learning.

Your life will be wonderful because you will make it wonderful, and it will be full of love because you are full of love.
