The Power of Understanding your Menstrual Cycle
Hello everyone!! It’s been a hot minute since I’ve come on here and spilled out my inner thoughts to you all.
SO here I am.. about to start this years first blog post - talking about your menstrual cycle. Cause why not!!
Now I am no expert when it comes to the nitty gritty of this subject. My views and beliefs are from my own personal experience. If you want to learn more about your own personal cycle, I suggest you talk to a health care professional :)
Alrighty, let’s get into it!
There are FOUR phases of the Menstrual Cycle:
Mensturation (period) Day 1 - 5
Follicular phase Day 6 - 10
Ovulatory (release of egg) Day 11 - 18
Luteal phase Day 19 - 28
** the days are a rough guide, these days may not be 100% for you and your cycle*
Last year I wanted to learn more about my cycle because not everyday I was feeling my best. Some days I’d be super emotional, wanting to stay home and other times I’d have so much energy I wanted to go out and have fun.
I came up with a little cheat sheet as a helpful guide for myself and James (my boyfriend). I’ll share with you below.
Finding out when I naturally have low energy vs when I have naturally high energy - has been a game changer. I am able to plan my days and weeks around my menstrual cycle.
I don’t know if anyone else does this, but I have found this so helpful:
I put in my google calendar in advance when my period is due. This way I can stay home and rest for days 1 - 2 of my period (as I am suspected to have endometriosis, and my period pain is quite horrendous).
I also don’t plan social events and outings around this time. This is a great tool for planning trips away as well, so then you can potentially avoid having your period on holiday.
I encourage you to find out more about your own cycle, so you are more attuned with your body’s wants and needs. Which in turns being kinder, and not being so hard on yourself when you don’t feel as motivated and energetic; when you feel like staying in bed all day - there is a reason for it.
I hope this some what inspires you <3
Lots of love,
Rachelle xx
