Restaurant review: Frankie Italo Dining (Mitolo Wines)

Disclaimer: This was just my personal experience and personal opinion from the day.

So, I booked a surprise birthday lunch for my boyfriend, James.

It didn’t go to plan.

Before I went to pick James up, I got my period and my period pain was about 4/10. Which was manageable for myself. I picked up James and we drove to Frankie. I love driving to McLaren Vale, and seeing all the wineries and vineyards. It’s honestly so beautiful.

We reached Frankie and walked in. We were greeted by the lovely manager and were seated.

After placing our food order I was feeling faint and my period pain rocketed to a 9. I went to the bathroom (which was very nice and stunning) and got some fresh air. But as soon as I walked back into the restaurant, I immediately knew this wasn’t going to end well.

We had ordered the Mettiti Comodo $55 per person.

This included a couple of small entrees, one pizza and one pasta. All to share. Not each.

Our entrees came but the pain, and the nausea I was feeling was not wanting to have a bite.

James ate some of the entrees, and it was okay. Nothing really amazing.

At that point we realised we should go home, so I could just rest and lie down. (And let’s be honest, so James could watch the footy).

When the pizza arrived I asked the waitress if we could take the pizza home, because I wasn’t feeling too well. She went and told her manager. The manager came over and was very empathetic, and lovely about the whole situation. We went to go pay for even just half of the meal since we didn’t get the pasta, but the manager said that we did not need to pay, and meal was on them.

My eyes were tearing up when she said that, because that gesture was honestly super nice of her. I was also just very emotional, with everything going on inside me, and the fact it was James’ birthday lunch.

Later that day we found out our friends, Maddy and Josh went to Frankie for lunch as well.

They obviously stayed for the full experience (unlike me). Maddy messaged me and told me how much they spent with drinks, and thought the $55 per person menu was not worth it at all. The reason was because of the amount of food they received was so little. In both of our opinions we would expect at least one pizza, one pasta and another main to share as well, for $55. Or even two different pizzas, and two different pastas to share.

Moving on, the place itself was really nice and beautiful. It was light and bright in there, from natural lighting, and warm too. The staff were really nice and friendly. However, the pizza we took home to eat wasn’t anything special taste wise. It was still a nice normal pizza at the end of the day.

Anyway, this concludes my experience at Frankie Italo Dining (Mitolo Wines). At the end of the day, I am glad I went, because I have been wanting to go for a while now. However I probably wouldn’t go back in a heart beat.

If you choose to go and check it out, let me know your thoughts and opinions.

Rachelle xx
